Nine of the first Mennonites in Syria and Turkey sent by the Mennonite
Relief Commission for War Sufferers to work with Near East Relief.
There is no identification for the men pictured, but most likely these
nine come from the following 11 Mennonites who departed for the
Near East in January and February of 1919: Orie O Miller, Akron, PA;
David Zimmerman, Ephrata, PA; Frank and William Stoltzfus, Lima
Ohio; Christina Graber, Noble, IA Ezra Deter, Morrison, IL, Silas Hertzler,
Denbigh, VA, Ernest E Miller, Middlebury, IN; Jesse Smucker, Smithville,
OH, Leon Myer, Lancaster, PA; and Paul V Snyder, Plainview, TX.
