Jan Paeuw (Pauw, Pou), an Anabaptist martyr, a maker of blocks for ships. He was a deacon in the Amsterdam congregation, preached nonresistance, condemning all use of force, as opposed to Münsterite teaching. In his home meetings were often held and baptism administered, even after his arrest, which occurred at the end of December 1534. On the rack he betrayed what he wanted to withhold. On 6 March 1535 he was beheaded at Amsterdam with eight brethren.
