David Koop was born 18 August 1900 in Orloff, [[Russia|Russia]]. He was ordained a minister in the Mennonite church ([[Kirchliche Mennoniten|Kirchliche Mennoniten]]) in 1925. He was with the group that was able to leave Russia in 1929, immigrating via [[Germany|Germany]] to [[Brazil|Brazil]]. The first settlement in Stolzplateau, Santa Catarina, was not successful and he moved, together with others, to [[Curitiba (Paraná, Brazil) |Curitiba]], ca. 1935. David Koop was known for his biblical and doctrinal preaching and his irenic relationships to other groups, including the Mennonite Brethren churches and the Mennonites in North America. He was active in both the Associaçäo das Igrejas Menonitas do Brasil (Association of Mennonite Churches of Brazil) and the Conference of Mennonites in South America. David Koop died 28 January 1982.
