The Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite congregation in Steinbach, Manitoba began services and organized in 1874. It is the oldest Mennonite congregation in Steinbach. Peter Toews is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through immigration from Russia.
Originally services were held in the local school building. The first church building was occupied in 1911, with a subsequent building program in 1959.
In 1965 there were 496 members; in 1975, 650; in 1985, 580; in 1995, 608; in 2000, 633. The congregation has been affiliated with the Evangelical Mennonite Conference. The language of worship is English; the transition from German occurred in the 1950s.
