Revision as of 08:05, 3 December 2014

Willem de Cleermaker (Willem Enckus or Enchus), an Anabaptist martyr, executed 5 October 1560, at Antwerp, Belgium, by being drowned secretly within the Steen castle. Van Braght's information that he was burned at the stake on the market place early in the morning is incorrect. Van Braght gives only the year 1560, not the exact date. Willem was a native of Berg in the district of Cologne, Germany. He died after a frank and valiant confession of faith, and is commemorated in the hymn "Een nieuwe liedt"  (a new song), No. 10 of the Lietboecxken.
