Jeronimo de Bosch was born 23 March 1740 at Amsterdam, and died there 1 June 1811. He was an apothecary until 1773 and then became highest official in the Amsterdam secretariat. He was a Latin poet and highly regarded for his scholarship as well as his gentle and noble character. A poem of his on Napoleon Bonaparte was translated into Dutch, French, and German. The following works were published by him: Over den Staat der Zielen na den dood des lichaams (1784); De inhoud van den Ilias van Homerus (1804, translated into German); Lofrede op H. G. Oosterdijk (Amsterdam, 1795); and Lofrede op J. R. Deiman.
