Sijbrant Jansz, an Anabaptist martyr, executed at Hoorn, Holland on 7 June 1535 with Hendrik Gijsbertsz of Kampen, Steven Benedictus, Femmetgen Egberts, and Welmoet Jans. Sijbrant and the two other men were beheaded; the two women were drowned. In March of the same year they had been arrested, and though Catholic theologians tried hard to make them recant, they all remained steadfast. The Court of Holland ordered them to be executed without pardon and without delay. Their execution stirred Hoorn deeply; even most city magistrates abhorred the executions.
