Pieter Keurlis was one of the first German immigrants to America (13 families from Krefeld), who landed in Pennsylvania on 6 October 1683, and founded Germantown. He acquired 200 acres of land from J. Telner, and was the first German bartender in America. He was a Krefeld Quaker, formerly a Mennonite.
