Abraham Stamperius, a Reformed pastor of Sommelsdijk, Dutch province of South Holland, engaged in a public debate with the Mennonite elder François de Knuyt in 1617 concerning the Scripturalness of infant baptism. Stamperius published an account of this dispute entitled Waerachtigh Verhael van't Gespreck ghehouden tot Somelsdijck.... De Knuyt answered with a refutation Verantwoordinghe (1617).
