Willem Frederik Golterman, b. 14 June 1898, followed studies in Leiden and Amsterdam, then was pastor in Makkum and Witmarsum (1933-1936), then Amersfoort (1936-1942), and Amsterdam (1942-1947).

In 1942 he earned a doctorate in theology, and in 1946 he began lecturing at the Amsterdam Mennonite Theological Seminary and the University of Amsterdam. From 1960 his lectures focused particularly on the history of 20th-century Christianity, particularly relations among churches. He served in numerous additional capacities, as chairperson of the Algemene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit (Dutch Mennonite General Conference, 1946-1951), secretary of the Doopsgezinde Zendingsraad (Mennonite mission board; 1951-1953), and as research secretary of the ecumenical council of churches in The Netherlands (1953-1960). 

Willem Golterman died 28 July 1990.
