Van Loon is a Dutch Mennonite family, which furnished a number of Mennonite deacons and preachers. Apparently this family lived at Rotterdam, where Herman van Loon, baptized 1695 in the Waterlander congregation, was appointed preacher of the (1700) united congregation in March 1705 but resigned on 31 March because of dissension in the congregation concerning his call. He resumed his ministry on 11 March 1706 and served until his death on 4 November 1710. His son Isaac van Loon was a deacon at Rotterdam 1710-1714. To this family also belong the preachers Abraham van Loon and his son Petrus van Loon. Another Abraham van Loon, a physician at Amsterdam, also of this family, was interested in theology, publishing, besides medical books, Frederik Toger's Samenstel der Godgeleerdheid (Leiden, 1726) and (translated from English) W. Derham's God-geleerde Natuurkunde (Leiden, 1728 and 1739). It is not certain whether also Jochem van Loon (d. 1692), a leather merchant and preacher of the Waterlanders at Dordrecht from 1667, belonged to this family.
