Dirk Gerritsz van den Busch, an Anabaptist martyr, was a native of the hamlet of Bus or den Busch near Krommenie in Waterland, Dutch province of North Holland. The account by van Braght has been shown to be incorrect in calling him Jonker Dirk, which suggests that he was a nobleman. Dirk Gerritsz many have been called "jonkman," or an unmarried man. The year in which van Braght places the execution, 1542, also is wrong. It must have been 1534. On 15 April of that year three Anabaptists from Krommeniedijk were cruelly put to death at the Hague. Their names were Jan Dirksz Walen, Dirk Gerritsz, and Cornelis Luytgens (or Luytsz). They were seized at Bergklooster on the boats in which they had sailed from North Holland to go to Münster.
