Sangerhausen, a town of Thuringia, Germany, in the vicinity of which the Anabaptist movement won a large following during the Reformation. The movement was brutally suppressed. In or about 1535 twelve Anabaptists were put to death for their faith. But it took several years to stamp it out completely.
