Verfalje (Verfailje), a Dutch Mennonite family of Flemish descent, found in the 17th and 18th cen­turies in the congregations of Haarlem and [[Amsterdam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Amster­dam]]. Jacob Jacobsz Verfailje (b. 1665 at Haarlem, d. 1738 at [[Alkmaar (Noord Holland, Netherlands)|Alkmaar]]) moved with his stepfather Theunis Dirksz Kuyper from Haarlem to Alkmaar in 1670, where he learned the trade of shoemaking, and also some Latin. In 1683 he moved with his stepfather to Harlingen, where he became a preacher of the church ca. 1689. In 1694 he was called as preacher to the [[Lamist Mennonite Church (Amsterdam, Netherlands)|Amsterdam Lamist]] congregation (salary 2,000 Dutch guilders!). Here he served until 1727, then moving to Alkmaar, where he served 1727-38 in the [[Waterlanders|Waterlander]] congre­gation. A Jacob Jansz Verfalje is mentioned as preacher of Krommenie about 1730.
