Verbrugge, a former Dutch Mennonite family, de­scended from Mennonite refugees from Flanders, Belgium, was found in the 17th and 18th centuries at Rotterdam, Haarlem, Amsterdam, and Leiden. Some of its members served as deacons. The Am­sterdam branch of this family operated an impor­tant trade house.
