Hans (Jan) van Coelen, an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr, was executed at [[Amsterdam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Amsterdam]] on 28 July 1535. He was charged with participating in the Amsterdam Anabaptist uprising of 10-11 May 1535; he admitted that he had been aware of this revolt, but insisted that he had not taken part in it. Hans, who had also lived at [[Groningen (Netherlands)|Groningen]], had been (re) baptized in June 1535 at Gheyn (near [[Cologne (Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany)|Cologne, Germany]]) by [[Peter van Gheyen (16th century)|Peter van Geyn]].

Hans (Jan) van Coelen, an Anabaptist martyr, was executed at Amsterdam on 28 July 1535. He was charged with participating in the Amsterdam Anabaptist uprising of 10-11 May 1535; he admitted that he had been aware of this revolt, but insisted that he had not taken part in it. Hans, who had also lived at Groningen, had been (re) baptized in June 1535 at Gheyn (near Cologne, Germany) by Peter van Geyn.
