Catharina (Katherijn), an Anabaptist martyr, executed 19 April 1551. She came from Lier (Belgian Brabant), was apprehended at Ghent by treachery, and condemned to be burned to death. On the scaffold she requested that the thongs be removed from her hands that she might pray. When this was refused she knelt with her hands bound. When she was tied to the stake, a "seducer" tried to dissuade her from the faith, but she asked him to leave her in peace. After this she suffered cruel death by fire eight days after Joris (Goris Cooman), Wouter (W. van der Weyden), Grietgeh (Margriete vanden Berghe), and Naentken (N. Bornaige). A song concerning these five martyrs is found in the Liedtboecxken vanden Offer des Heeren (No. 4): "Doemen vijftienhondert schreve, Daertoe een en vijftig jaer."
