Heinrich Ludolf Benthem, a Lutheran divine, born 2 November 1661, at Celle in [[Hannover (Niedersachsen, Germany)|Hannover]], died 9 July 1723 as consistorial councilor in Harburg. He was the author of <em>Holländischer Kirch- und Schulenstaat</em> (Frankfurt, 1698), the 19th chapter of which dealt with "[[Anabaptism|Anabaptists]] and Socinians," giving an interesting description of the Dutch Mennonites of his time. Especially noteworthy were his impressions of [[Galenus Abrahamsz de Haan (1622-1706)|Galenus Abrahamsz de Haan]], derived from personal association. The chapter ended with the complete [[Dordrecht Confession of Faith (Mennonite, 1632)|Dordrecht Confession]].
