'']]      Augusta County was established in 1738 when it and Frederick County were formed out of a part of Orange County, which included at that time the entire Shenandoah Valley of [[Virginia (USA)|Virginia]]. As originally constituted Augusta County included what is now Shenandoah, [[Rockingham County (Virginia, USA) |Rockingham]] and [[Page County (Virginia, USA)|Page]] counties, which were formed in 1745, 1777 and 1831 respectively. These are all counties in which Mennonites first settled when they came to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Therefore Augusta County is the custodian of many of the early records of these settlements.
