Audrain County was the location of an Amish Mennonite settlement that lasted from 1898 until 1917. The founding leaders were Jacob D. Guengerich (1843-1926), John C. Gingerich (1846-1929), and John B. Miller (1844-1929), all of Johnson County, Iowa. Over 20 families moved there, mostly from Iowa. Resident ministers were John Zimmerman, Bishop Noah Yoder, and E.
