Andries Apostool was one of the leaders of the conservative Mennonites in the Netherlands and was four times a deacon in the Zonist congregation in Amsterdam (chosen in 1733, 1743, 1755 and 1766). On 25 October 1735 he represented this congregation at the conference called by the Lamist and Toren congregation in Amsterdam to arrange for the founding of a theological seminary (see Amsterdam Seminary). He was also present at a meeting of representatives of the Sociëteit of Groninger Old Flemish and of the Zonist Societeit on the matter of forming a union, which, however, did not occur (1766). Andries Apostool wrote De Mennoniten of Doopsgezinden verdedigd, directed against Georgius Erhard, the Reformed preacher of Zaandijk.
