Hans Jakob was a co-worker with Pilgram Marpeck, a High German Anabaptists elder. The only fact known about his life is that he participated in the composition of the extensive defensive booklet, Antwort auf Kaspar Schwenckfelds Beurteilung des Buches der Bundesbezeugung von 1542, written by the South German and Swiss Brethren 1544-1546 under Marpeck's leadership.
The esteem in which the High German and Swiss Mennonites held the document can be estimated by a comment written by Walpurga, the Marshalck of Pappenheim, the original owner of the copy now in the central library of Zurich: "If God should call me (i.e., to eternity), this book shall be handed out only to the true believers, and those who have a zeal for God shall see the salvation of their souls therein; it shall not go into the world, for I prefer to give it to the God-fearing."
