The Neighbourhood Church in Nanaimo, British Columbia began services in 1981. Frank Durksen is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through outreach by the British Columbia Conference of the Mennonite Brethren Churches, which it joined in 1983.
For many years the church met in the Bowen Park Community Centre. In 1990 the congregation built their own church building, and added a new worship area, kitchen, offices, and an enlarged foyer in 2009.
