Leonhard Thomas de Vogel, born at Amsterdam ca. 1725, died 1794 at his stately country home, "Vijverburg" on the Vecht River, of which he had been the owner since 1770, a son of Thomas de Vogel and Elisabeth Bosch, married 1756 to Catharine van Lennep (b. 1726), died childless. From his great fortune he bequeathed to the congregation bij't Lam at Amsterdam, into which he was baptized in 1745, three houses on the Kerkstraat (see Vogel, Huizen de) and a sum of money to be administered by the trustees of the congregation as "Fonds de Vogel," for the expenses of the Mennonite theological seminary, which was then an activity of the Amsterdam Lamist congregation. Since the founding of the Algemeene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit (ADS) in 1811, which took over the seminary, this fund has always been represented among the trustees of the ADS.
