Originally services were held in the local school building. The first church building was occupied in 1911, with a subsequent building program in 1959.

Steinbach Evangelical (Kleine Gemeinde) Mennonite Church, located at the east end of Steinbach, Manitoba, was erected in 1912. Formerly meetings were held in the school building. The total baptized membership in 1955 was 400. A new church to seat 850 was in process of building near the 1912 church. Services were conducted in both German and English, sometimes concurrently. The baptized membership in 1958 was 490, with Archie Penner as the leading minister, assisted by P. D. Friesen, Jacob P. Dueck, and Benjamin D. Reimer.
