photo. '']]    Agnes Toews Kornelsen, entrepreneur, was born on 26 March 1911 to Peter C. Toews (1874-1945) and Caroline Eck (1880-1956) in Steinbach, Manitoba. She married William D. Kornelsen (1914- ) (son of long-time teacher Gerhard G. Kornelsen) in 1942. Agnes broke new ground when she went to train as a hairdresser in Winnipeg and then opened Steinbach's first hairdressing salon in 1935. Known to be a generous, warm and caring woman, Agnes' clientele quickly grew, ushering in the era of short bobbed hair for the women of Steinbach. As Agnes' business continued to grow it eventually became necessary to hire Martha Barkman as an assistant and it was Martha who bought the business when Agnes retired.
