Sim Kushal, a deacon in the Mennonite Church in India and longtime staff member of the Dhamtari Christian Hospital, was born ca. 1907 in the village of Tansi, Charama Police Station, District Bastar, Madhya Pradesh (M.P.), India, to Kushal and Dularin Bai. He was one of three brothers brought to Dhamtari by his mother and admitted into the American Mennonite Mission boys orphanage.
Sim received an education through the tenth class in the mission schools in Dhamtari. During these years he became a baptized member of the Mennonite Church in India. In 1929 he was selected for compoundry (pharmacy) training by Dhamtari Christian Hospital. From 1932 to 1970 he was head compounder and anesthetist at the hospital. In 1938 he was ordained deacon to assist with the pastoral needs of the Sundarganj congregation members living in and about Baithena. He was also interested in singing and village evangelism.
