The Evangelization Board of the Mennonite Churches of Uruguay was organized in 1960 with officers representing the Mennonite Board of Missions (Mennonite Church), the Commission on Overseas Mission (General Conference Mennonite Church) and the Konferenz der Mennonitengemeinden in Uruguay. In 1961 a Spanish-speaking representative was added.

In 1986 the Evangelization Board was made up of one delegate from each of the congregations of the Konferenz and the Convención de las Iglesias Menonitas del Uruguay. It dealt with administrative matters related principally to the life and mission of the Spanish-speaking groups. Although the North American mission boards continued to contribute to the budget of these churches through the Evangelization Board, they were no longer represented on the board. Both the Evangelization Board and the Convención had begun a process of self-study in order to determine their respective roles in their ongoing relationship.
