Christian R. Egle (1858-1926), for many years pastor and elder of the [[Salem Evangelical Mennonite Church (Gridley, Illinois, USA)|Salem Defenseless Mennonite Church]] near Gridley, [[Livingston County (Illinois, USA)|Livingston County]], [[Illinois (USA)|Illinois]], was the son of [[Amish Mennonites|Amish Mennonite]] parents, Christian and Maria (Rediger) Egle. In June 1879 he was rebaptized and joined the Defenseless congregation at Gridley, Illinois In June 1883 he was elected by ballot to the ministry of his congregation and 10 years later was ordained elder.
