Willem Jansen, a Mennonite elder at Emden, East Friesland, Germany, whom K. Vos considers to have been the secretary of the disputation held at Emden in 1578 between some Flemish Mennonite leaders and a number of Calvinist theologians. If this surmise is correct, Willem Jansen and not Card van Gent (Ghendt), under the pseudonym of I.H.V.P.N., is the author of <em>Beginsel en Voortganck. der Geschillen</em>.
