Johann Jacob Krehbiel, a Mennonite farmer on the [[Weierhof (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Weierhof]], [[Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Palatinate]], [[Germany|Germany]], was born 10 April 1841. He became chairman of the Mennonite Educational Association in 1882; in 1886 he was appointed the first Palatine member of the curatorium of the [[Vereinigung der deutschen Mennonitengemeinden (Union of German Mennonite Congregations)|Vereinigung]]<em>. </em>At the Palatine-Hessian conference at Eppstein (27 May 1886), he urged closer union with the Baden Mennonites; this union resulted in the establishment of the Badisch-Pfalzische Konferenz, which was later called the [[Konferenz süddeutscher Mennonitengemeinden|Conference of the South German Mennonites]]. With sacrificial devotion and deep understanding he shared in all the endeavors to gather and preserve the brotherhood, as well as in many branches of charitable work in the Protestant church.
