Hinrich Ebbinck (Doctor Klumpe) is perhaps identical with the elder [[Hendrik van Vreden (16th century)|Hendrik van Vreden]], who was first a co-worker with [[Menno Simons (1496-1561)|Menno Simons]], but then fell away from him to follow [[Adam Pastor (d. 1560/70)|Adam Pastor]]. It is certain that Ebbinck was in the same region at the same time; we come across him in 1546 in [[Westphalia (Germany)|Westphalia]] and [[Gelderland (Netherlands)|Gelderland]].
