Herman van Tielt was a Mennonite elder, originally from Flanders, who lived in Wismar, Germany, about 1553. In January and February 1533 he was an intermediary between Johannes a Lasco and Menno Simons, who also lived in Wismar at this time. Herman was also among the seven elders meeting at Wismar in 1554 who drew up nine articles for the believers as a rule of life (see Wismar Resolution). In 1555, when the Mennonites were expelled from Wismar, Herman van Tielt must also have left the town. About May 1556 he was present in the home of Menno Simons at Wüstenfelde, where Zylis and Lemke, as representatives of the High Germans, had a discussion with Menno about avoidance in marriage. Nothing more is known about Herman van Tielt.
