Emmett Leroy Harshbarger: Mennonite (General Conference Mennonite) teacher and peace worker; born 16 September 1901, at West Liberty, Ohio, the son of Samuel H. Harshbarger. He graduated from Bluffton College with an A.B. (1925) and received his A.M. (1929) and his Ph.D. (1933) from Ohio State University. He married Eva Grace Geiger 19 August 1925. He taught a number of rural and high schools in Ohio, was instructor of history and speech at Bluffton 1925-1930, and professor of history at Bethel College 1933-1942. He died 26 July 1942.
