Van der Goot, a Dutch Mennonite family, originally of Akkrum, province of Friesland. Here (1) Jacob Synnes (1703-1765), a butter merchant, was a (untrained and unsalaried) preacher of the Mennonite congregation. His son (2) Synne (1740-1818) in 1811 adopted the family name of van der Goot. Sons of Synne were (3) Jacob (1769-1844) and (4) Hidde (1771-1840), both butter merchants like their father and grandfather, and both deacons of the Akkrum congregation. (5) Sine Hiddes van der Goot (1799-1889), son of Hidde (4), was minister of the congregations of Workum 1825-1827, Warga 1827-1833, Blokzijl 1833-1839, and Berlikum 1839-1871.

Two sons of Jacob (3), viz., (6) Gerben and (7) Pieter van der Goot in 1806 moved to Westzaan, province of North Holland, where their father had bought an oil mill, but in 1813 they returned to Friesland to hide in order to avoid military service. In 1814 they returned to North Holland and lived at Zaandam. A son of Pieter v.d. Goot (7) was (8) Pastor Pieter v.d. Goot.

(9) Arnold Hiddes van der Goot (1863-1945), a grandson of Sine (Synne) Hiddes (2), was a Mennonite pastor serving the churches of Giethoorn 1889-1892, and Middelie 1892-1930. His son (10) Benjamin van der Goot (b. 1893) was also a Mennonite pastor, serving at Zijpe 1919-1924 and Borne 1930-1939.
