Sammlung Georg Leibbrandt is a series of publications dealing with the former German population in Russia, prepared under the direction of Ernst Meynen. Georg Leibbrandt, after whom the series is named, had written numerous books on the German population in Russia and was prominent in this field during the days of Hitler and the occupation of Russia during World War II. The full series appeared in several subsections.

Of special significance for Mennonite research are the volumes III, IV, and VI of the section Quellen und Materialien zur Erforschung des Deutschtums in Osteuropa. They are: Hans Rempel, Deutsche Bauernleistung am Schwarzen Meer, Bevölkerung und Wirtschaft 1825 (108 pp., Leipzig, 1941); Margarete Woltner, Die Gemeindeberichte von 1848 der deutschen Siedlungen am Schwarzen Meer (230 pp., Leipzig, 1942); and Otto Auhagen, Die Schicksalswende des russland-deutschen Bauerntums in den Jahren 1927-1930 (197 pp., Leipzig, 1942). Of great significance are also the two publications by K. Stumpp which appeared in the Sammlung Georg Leibbrandt (Publikationsstelle Ost, Berlin, 1943) under the titles Bericht über das Gebiet Chortitza and Bericht über das Gebiet Kronau-Orloff. (Orloff is the Zagradovka Mennonite settlement.) These two books consist primarily of tables on the Mennonite economic and cultural life of these settlements, report at length about the economic and human losses sustained by these settlements from the Revolution to the evacuation in 1943. It is not known whether similar reports exist for other settlements.

Another section of the Sammlung Georg Leibbrandt, entitled Die deutschen Siedlungen in der Sowjetunion, consisted of five volumes (Berlin, 1941), which have the special inscription Sonderausgabe. Nur für den Dienstgebrauch. These booklets deal with regions having a German population and contain large maps of the areas enclosed in pockets in the back. They list names of places and provinces, German population statistics, and the geographical location. Of special interest for Mennonites are volume III, Ukraine mit Krim, and volume IV, Dongebiet und Kaukasus.

Unfortunately very few copies of some of these publications survived World War II. In some instances only one or two copies are extant (Hans Rempel's book). Although these publications appeared during the height of Hitler's campaign and propaganda, they contain very valuable and factual information about the Mennonites of Russia and have been used extensively in the Mennonite Encyclopedia articles.
