Periwig Dispute in the Danzig Mennonite Church, which arose when Elder Hinrich van Dühren refused to admit to church membership a Dutch Mennonite (Cornelis de Vogel) who wore a wig, and excluded him from communion. Then when a considerable number of Danzig Mennonites followed the example of the Dutch and wore wigs, the quarrel assumed more violent forms and brought confusion into the brotherhood. In vain the government was called upon to settle the matter in 1739. Mutual bitterness increased. Finally Jacob Ouwejans, a preacher from Holland, succeeded in reconciling the two parties. On 2 October 1740, the entire congregation again observed communion.
