Ulrich Bolt was a brother of the Anabaptist Eberli Bolt, of Lachen in the Swiss canton of Schwyz, first a Catholic priest, then joined the Zwinglian Reformed party by 1524, was made pastor at Fläsch near Maienfeld in Chur, and in the course of 1525-1526 apparently joined the Anabaptists. His first appearance in the records as an Anabaptist was in Basel in the spring of 1526, from which he was expelled and went to Grüningen and joined the Brethren there. Arrested by the magistrate of Grüningen, he must have recanted, since he was soon appointed pastor in the parish of Niederhasli in the canton of Zürich, where he remained at least until 1530, although he showed some sympathy for Anabaptism here also.
