Hammerstein (now Czarne, Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland) a village about 10 miles east of Neustettin (now Szczecinek), formerly located in the province of Pomerania, Germany (coordinates: 53° 41′ 0″ N, 16° 57′ 0″ E). Hammerstein was where one of the three camps was located (the others being Mölln and Prenzlau) in which some of the 4,000 Mennonite refugees fleeing Russia in November 1929 were quartered by the German government until they could immigrate to Brazil, Paraguay, and Canada, which they did in the first half of 1930.
