The congregation developed over many years as members of nearby Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregations moved into the city of Moundridge, a small city of under 2,000 persons in 2020. The first efforts to have an organized congregation in Moundridge date to the early 1960s, with conversations within the Lone Tree congregation. The construction of the General Offices of the denomination in Moundridge provided more impetus to the discussions.

With the support of the Lone Tree, Grace, Zion and Meridian congregations a local committee was appointed to investigate possibilities. Space in the new General Offices building was available, and the first worship service was held there on 12 April 1971. The congregation worshipped there for almost two years before a new church was completed at the present location, with the first service held on 29 January 1973. A remodeling project took place in 1994.

For a number of years beginning in 1977 Gospel Mennonite cooperated with the Lone Tree congregation in operating the Sunflower School. In 1986 Gospel Mennonite built its own Wheatland Country School.

In 2020 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were Dale K. Becker, Donovan Wedel, and Dale Koehn.
