In 2017 the congregation announced that it would withdraw from Mennonite Church Alberta at the end of the year. The ''Being a Faithful Church'' (BFC) resolution regarding same-sex relationships that was passed by Mennonite Church Canada at their assembly in July 2016 played a part in their withdrawal.

The Edmonton Vietnamese Mennonite congregation began services in 1995. The congregation originated through outreach by the Calgary Vietnamese Mennonite group.
