Rommeken, an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr, who was burned at the stake at [[Antwerp (Belgium)|Antwerp, Belgium]], in 1555. His name is found in hymn No. 16, "Aenhoort God, hemelsche Vader" (Hear, O God, heavenly Father), of the <em>Lietboecxken</em>. Van Braght's short account in the <em>Martyrs' Mirror</em>, which states that he died valiantly, follows the information given in the <em>Offer</em>. The exact date of the execution and a number of details about this martyr have been published by [[Génard, Petrus (1830-1899)|P. Génard ]]in the <em>Antwerpsch Archieven-blad</em>. His official name was Rombout Smit, and he was a native of Antwerp, by trade an engraver on glass. He was a master craftsman and from 1543 a member of the painters' guild of St. Luke.
