Hermann Sudermann (1857-1928), a noted German author, was born at Wadziken in [[East Prussia|East Prussia]], Germany, 30 September 1857. His father was a member of the Elbing-Ellerwald Mennonite congregation, but was expelled when he married a Lutheran. Hermann Sudermann's <em>Frau Sorge</em> (1887) pictures his unhappy youth in his poverty-stricken home.
