Rijper Sociëteit is the name of a conference of Waterlander Mennonite congregations in the Dutch province of North Holland, established about 1640. The fixed place of meeting has always been De Rijp; hence its name. In 1841 the Frisian Sociëteit of North Holland united with the Rijper. It differs from the usual pattern in that its annual conferences are attended by the deacons rather than the ministers, for the reason that its purpose is the financial support of needy congregations. From 1693 to 1798 this conference also called a meeting at which the ministers were present, its purpose being to provide for vacant pulpits.
