Hänsel Poltzinger (Boltzinger), an Anabaptist martyr, a tailor, was captured with Marcus Eder on 24 April 1605, at Mernbach in Bavaria, now Upper Austria, and taken to Ried, where the two men lay in prison for 15 weeks, tormented by judges and priests, besides two Jesuits from Oetting, and were twice tortured on the rack. On 26 August 1605, they were beheaded and then burned. Their death is the theme of a hymn (with 20 stanzas), which begins with the words, "Hört, hört und merkt, ir Gotteskindt, die ir liebhaber Gottes sind."
