Philip Andreas Grandidier was an abbot, historian of Alsace. He died on a journey to study the archives in Lucelle (Sundgau). In a posthumously published work, Oeuvres inédites de Grandidier (Colmar, 1865-68, 6 vols.), he discusses the Mennonites with pleasant objectivity, thus making his book a notable source for Mennonite history, especially in Alsace.
