Pieter van Rixtel, a Mennonite, lived in Elbing, West Prussia until 1709. Another Pieter van Rixtel (1644-73), of Haarlem, was a poet of mediocre gifts. He often stayed at the inn of Jan Zoet near Amsterdam, called "Parnassus aan het Y," a poets' center, where van Rixtel met with Karel Verloove and other Collegiant-Mennonite makers of verse.
