Andries Langedul, an Anabaptist martyr, was born a leper in Flanders. He was beheaded at Antwerp on 8 November 1559, along with Laurens van der Leyen and Mattheus Pottebakker. Andries was captured while he was reading the Bible. His wife had just been delivered of a child, but could be taken away and thus did not fall into the hands of the persecutors. Andries was executed secretly within the Steen prison at Antwerp. His name occurs also in the song, "Aenhoort Godt, hemelsche Vader" (Give ear, O God, heavenly Father), in the Liedtboecxken van den Offer des Heeren, numbe16r , in which Andries is listed as number 57; he also is mentioned by Wolkan in Die Lieder der Wiedertäufer.
