Laurens Verkamer (Loureys van den Camere), an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake on 26 April 1569 at ‘s Hertogenbosch, Dutch province of North Brabant. Verkamer was a citizen of Antwerp and well-to-do. He had joined the local Mennonite congregation, but fled with many other Mennonites because of persecution. He intended to go to Nijmegen in the Dutch province of Gelderland, but en route was arrested at 's Hertogenbosch on 5 January 1569, and loyally suffered martyrdom.
