Jannetje Matthysdochter, from Medemblik, Dutch province of North Holland, an Anabaptist martyr, was drowned on 25 November 1539 at Leiden, Dutch province of South Holland. Details about this martyr were not available. Mellink supposes that she had fled from Haarlem, where there had been a recent persecution, to Leiden, and that she was an adherent of David Joris. She was arrested together with two other Anabaptist women while reading Anabaptist books in an attic. Daniel Jansz, a schoolteacher, who had given them shelter in his attic, was banished from the city of Leiden.
